Police Chief Walter Shofner

        Walter Shofner was born in 1954 in Port Arthur, Texas to William Preston “Bunk” Shofner, Jr. and Mamie Ruth Taylor Shofner. He attended school in San Augustine graduating in 1973. He and Kerri Williams, from Center, were married in 1979 and they have a daughter Heather.
Walter attended the police academy at Lamar University in Beaumont in 1979. He worked at Port Arthur Police Department from 1979 until March 1983 when he began working with Center Police Department. He started working as a Patrol Officer working his way up to Detective and later as Asst. Chief under Jimmy Matthews. He has his master peace officer license. Walter became Chief upon the retirement of Jimmy Matthews in 2005.
